Essential Item to Change at the Beach
This surf poncho looks OK and is too large. It is made from microfiber polyester, known for being durable, hypoallergenic, soft, lightweight, and water resistant. If microfiber is water resistant, then why are people making towels and bathrobes from microfiber? The reason is that although the individual fibers repel water, which means microfiber does not absorb water, by the way microfiber is made, it has the ability to trap and hold water well.This poncho has only one size. When my family saw me wearing this poncho, they burst into laughter. When I looked at myself in the mirror later, I understood why. I am 5 feet 11 inches and weigh about 170 pounds. A person twice my weight can fit in it. Therefore, although this poncho is not going to win any fashion award, it is useful and functional.I used to swim in the frigid Pacific Ocean every week, twice a week, for 10 years, wearing only a swim trunk. When I change at the beach, wrapped with a towel around my waist, I always fear that I might lose my balance and fall. Now that I am getting older, my tolerance for cold water has decreased, and having hypertension, cold water is very bad for me since it increases my blood pressure. Therefore, during the late fall and winter months, I will need to wear a wetsuit. It is when this surf poncho comes in handy. It would be quasi-impossible for me to change a wetsuit wrapped with a towel.We own many large and small microfiber towels, but they do not feel very soft to the touch. On the other hand, this poncho made of microfiber polyester feels soft to the touch, and it holds a lot of water. Although this poncho does not look good on me, which I do not really care much about, it is useful and functional and will help me to change with confidence at the beach. I like it, and I recommend it.

Much higher quality than expected
I don’t know what I was expecting, but I’m impressed and a little surprised by the quality of this thing. I’ve always wanted one of these changing ponchos because I surf and mountain bike a lot. So I always end up doing the towel trick in the parking lot – getting in and out of wetsuits, and also biking shorts that I don’t want to wear in the car on the way home. Yuck.So on to the review.. the material actually feels a bit heavy to me for what it is, so I guess my opinion there is a little different than other reviewers who seemed to expect thicker material. It’s definitely a microfiber type material, so it’s not plush like a towel – but I don’t think it’s thin for microfiber. I think it feels at least medium-heavy, and seems durable. Also, since it’s not plush like a towel, it also does store fairly small, as others mentioned.Since this is a changing poncho and something that will live in my car 90% of the time, I think it’s made of really great material for that purpose. If it were towel material it would soak up a ton of water and get funky in my car – and I need it to live there for use multiple times throughout the week. I bike and surf a lot. So… I will use a towel to dry off mostly, but this to change. That said, because wetsuits are wet when changing, it will certainly get a little wet, but it does dry fast. But that’s why it’s a great material choice. It can get a little wet, while still drying off quickly without getting funky in the car. If you really do need to dry off with it though, it will work just fine (I have, and it dries reasonably well), but I probably wouldn’t leave that in the car.Size-wise I think it’s just about right for most people. I would not want it smaller. A half-on wetsuit fits under it just fine, and it’s just long enough to cover your junk from view while bending down to put on or remove a wetsuit or biking shorts. I’m 6’0 for reference.As far as the construction and material, it’s solid. I’ve put up a couple of pictures of the stitching, which is heavily reinforced at points where it could otherwise fail/tear. So I think that’s really thoughtful that they reinforced it so heavily. It seems pretty bomb-proof. Even the embroidery is high quality. For something in this price range, I see it lasting a very long time.Last things – the built-in hanger loop is really nice, the hood is great for keeping warm with wet hair or keeping the sun off, and I really like the kangaroo pocket. I’ll probably end up hanging out in this thing in public with nothing under it way more than I probably should. Well done on this product.

A decent warm-weather surf poncho for average size adults
The sizing on this surf poncho is just right. I’m 5′ 9″, usually wear a medium or large for everything, and this goes to about mid-shin on me. It’s definitely long enough to avoid giving a peepshow in the parking lot. I included a picture with a medium t-shirt over the top for a size reference. There is plenty of room inside to maneuver board shorts or a wetsuit.The material of this poncho is not what I expected. I thought it would be more like a microfiber towel with a bit of fluff, but it’s actually more of a microfiber suede. It’s very light and pliable, and I suspect it dries quickly, but it’s not going to be warm. If you’re looking for something to change in the parking lot in Maine during the winter, this isn’t it. But if it’s 50+ degrees outside, this will be just fine.I did deduct one star because it came with some loose stitching (see the picture). It’s not like this is an every-day wear item that’s going to come apart at the seams, but I was a little disappointed to see a bunch of loose thread because otherwise the quality is very nice.

Awesome poncho
I love this changing poncho! It’s just a big quick dry microfiber towel shaped into a poncho so you can dry off easily after swimming, paddling, surfing, whatever water you get in. It’s also plenty big to change in, I was able to get in and out of my wetsuit without embarassing anyone and I’m 6’1, 205lbs. It’s also just comfortable to wear around after a day in the water when it’s still warm out, but cool enough to want a shirt again. It’s pretty thin, so it dries off really quick. I like the color and design as well, it makes it more than just a practical on/off for use item.
