Founded in 2014, The Harlem Candle Company was born in the home of travel and lifestyle expert Teri Johnson. So inspired by the fragrances she’s experienced in the 68 countries she visited, Teri desired to create a sensory experience that could take people on a journey to inspire creativity, joy and love. After making over a thousand candles in her kitchen, in less than one year, she collaborated with a world-renowned fragrance house, an expert chemist and fragrance industry veteran who have helped her grow the Harlem Candle Company into a global brand.

Harlem Renaissance
The candles are inspired by the Harlem Renaissance, and celebrate the lives of such jazz legends as Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday and Josephine Baker, all of whom performed in Harlem in the 1920’s and 30’s. The candles also pay homage to iconic places like Savoy Ballroom and the Sugar Hill neighborhood.

The Harlem Candle Co. is a luxury home fragrance brand specializing in scented candles inspired by the richness of Harlem. Founded in 2014 by travel and lifestyle expert Teri Johnson, the Harlem Candle Company is the manifestation of her love affair with fragrance, jazz, and Harlem.
Teri, a native Texan, decided to make the New York City neighborhood of Harlem her permanent home.
Through intense research, she discovered Harlem’s vibrant and rich past. Music icons including Josephine Baker and Duke Ellington who performed at clubs such as the Savoy Ballroom, the colorful areas of Harlem’s Sugar Hill and Lenox Avenue all inspired her to share these stories.

Longest burning candle, EVER!
A friend gifted me one of these candles a few months ago and it’s been hard to purchase others since.Not only do they burn long, and goes through every square inch of the room, and they are clean….no soot on my walls and ceilings! Probably better for my lungs too!

Beautiful scent
First things first, I love the whole aesthetic. The quality in the packaging, the jar and scent are really superb and a whole vibe. When you spend a little extra on something like a candle, you want it to feel like a treat. It did that for me.The scent itself is good; much better when burning. At first it smelled like tootsie rolls to me since itâs heavy on the chocolate notes, but it marries well with the other ones. It gives off a warm, relaxing vibe and I like lighting it at night for this reason. The throw is great as well; I can smell it nearby on the table unlit and once I light it up it fills my space easily.The only thing I dislike is how overwicked it is, meaning the wicks burn way too hot. Even with frequent trimming very low (1/8â) the flame starts to get pretty tall and burn very hot after 30 minutes. This definitely isnât a candle you want to accidentally leave burning for an extended time or fall asleep to or I worry itâd crack the glass.

Superior but Subpar Packaging Quality…
Pros:The candle itself is absolutely luxury. You will not find this quality in a department store. The throw is exceptional.The scent is masculine. I have pets so it works. The quality of the candle is superior. I love the candle scent.Challenges:The gorgeous video marketing and Oprah Winfrey’s recommendation makes the candle aesthetics (jar, labeling) seem higher quality than reality. The box packaging was nice but the candle label is coming off the candle jar. I think the company should invest in a higher quality labeling system or an etching machine at this price point. I also think the candle base (black glass jar) should be much higher quality and prettier. Better jars are at the dollar store. The jars need to be more elegant. More artistically aesthetic.The price should be around $35. I paid to support a Black Owned business and will buy all the candles in the line to support but I am paying about 20% for hype. If the jar and labeling improved definitely a $50-$75 candle.Nevertheless, I will be buying Lady next.

I recently purchased a Harlem candle from Amazon, and I have mixed feelings about it. On the plus side, the scent is absolutely divine. It fills the room with a warm, inviting fragrance that is neither too overpowering nor too subtle. The packaging was also elegant, adding a touch of luxury to the room.However, despite its merits, I must admit I found the candle to be quite overpriced. While I appreciate the quality of the scent and the overall presentation, the price point seems excessive for the size and duration of the candle. I’ve experienced similar quality from other brands at a more reasonable cost.
