A great oil for your cutting board, beard or skin.
My wife has been using coconut oil for several things over the years from adding in some of her recipes to making a salve and a moisturizer for her skin. However the brand we had used for some time is no longer available locally and is too expensive to ship. We decided to check out some of the other options and found Verona brand to suit our needs. We especially like that it ships in a larger 64 ounce container and was well sealed. Being the first time we have ordered something like this we did not know what to expect, but it arrived safely packed and with the container sealed in a thick ziploc style bag. We appreciate that kind of attention to detail.My wife uses the oil for a few different things, from a moisturizer and conditioner to replacing canola oil in some recipes that do not require cooking. I believe that fractionated coconut oil has a very low smoke point due to the way it is made(the process removes some of the fatty acids) so cooking with it is not suggested.The oil itself is a clear very pale yellow though super light in color and clear. It has a slight coconut aroma, maybe a toasted coconut, though my wife said it smelled like “just oil” to her. There isn’t any nutrition data on the label, but I would suspect this is on par with most of the other products out there.I am a wood worker who makes some things for use in the kitchen, including cutting boards, spurtles and so forth. Generally when I am done making the item I will give it several coats of food safe oils/waxes but wanted to look into other option and found that coconut oil is a great alternative for that task as well as what it does for use in cooking. I make my own “board butter” to use in my work shop and had been using mineral oil for the base(along with bees wax and carnauba wax), but after reading that fractionated coconut oil is fine to use as well has a component that resists rancidity and is anti-microbial, the change was a no brainer.One other use I have recently discovered is that this type of coconut oil works well for men with beards, which I have a full beard. There are days that being in the workshop can dry out my beard from being in a respirator, all the sawdust and so forth and having a dry scratchy beard is not fun. I’ve started rubbing in a small amount(maybe a dime size) after my shower while my beard is still a bit damp and leaves it feeling quite different and without the chemical smell in some beard lotions or unpleasant fragrances. I don’t mind some fragrance, but I don’t want it to overpower or combine with my colognes. The coconut oil is perfect in that regard.I’m truly surprised at all the things you can do with fractionated coconut oil. My beard feels much fuller and softer using the oil and it prevents it from making my face itch.
